Buying Guide: How to Choose the Best Pool Table and Cue Stick?

A high-quality pool table and cue stick can drastically improve your playing experience. With so many options in the market, choosing the right equipment can be challenging. Here is what you need to look for:

Slate vs. Wood Tables:
The most critical factor is the playing surface. Professional tables use ‘Slate’ (a type of stone). Slate stays perfectly flat forever and ensures a smooth ball roll. On the other hand, MDF or wooden tables are cheaper but can warp over time, ruining your shots.

Table Size and Room Space:
Pool tables usually come in 7ft (Bar size), 8ft (Standard), and 9ft (Professional) sizes. Measure your room before buying. You need at least 5 feet of clear space around the table to move your cue freely.

Cue Stick Weight and Material:
Standard cue sticks weigh between 18 to 21 ounces. For beginners, a 19 or 20-ounce stick is ideal. Ensure the stick is straight by rolling it on a flat surface. High-quality cues are typically made of North American Maple wood.

The Felt (Cloth):
Check the quality of the cloth. If it’s too thick, the balls will move slowly. If it’s too thin, it might tear easily. Worsted wool cloth is the best choice for a professional feel and speed.
